Vacancy: Technical Manager

Tubman Heating Limited is looking for a very special Auckland-based person to help manage the retirement of our past General Manager (now senior technical advisor) and to help grow the business. We need someone who is very knowledgeable about industrial heating systems; someone who is sales-orientated, versatile, personable and dedicated.

An attractive package will be designed to suit the successful candidate.

 

Who we are and what do we do?

We install and maintain boilers, burners and associated equipment in the industrial and commercial sectors.  We are 24 people split into a Projects team, a Service team and a Support team (back office).  There is a healthy overlap between them.  We are very Health and Safety conscious and have an excellent track record in looking after our people and our customers’ people.

We’ve been around, in for over 30 years.  We operate mainly in Auckland, but we also have customers in neighbouring regions (Northland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty) and a few in the south Pacific Islands.  For the right opportunity we will work in any part of New Zealand.

Our team has various qualifications:   Electrician.  Electrical Services Technician. Fitter.  Welder.  Turner.  Gas-fitter.  Plumber.  Chemical engineer.  Mechanical engineer.  Electrical Engineer.  Automotive Engineer.  Boilermaker.   The longest serving staff member has been with us for over 25 years and we have 6 staff members who have over 10 years’ service.

 

Here are some capabilities we’re looking for:

Technical Advisor

  • Consult with our clients to determine or understand their energy needs
  • Troubleshoot complex industrial heating issues 
  • Advise clients on heating requirements
  • Work with all our clients to design process systems for their plant needs
  • Price large and/or complex opportunities
  • Support the team through technical knowledge and experience

Sales Engineer

  • Assist the Business Development Manager to win large projects
  • Develop relationships with senior technical staff in large clients and project management companies

 Must know

  • Industrial boiler applications
  • Steam systems up to 18 bar and 10 MW output
  • Thermal oil systems up to 300oC and 10 MW output
  • Hot water systems up to 180oC and 10 MW output
  • All fuel types (although our clients mainly use natural gas)

Must have

  • An existing right to work in New Zealand
  • Excellent English language skills (verbal and written)
  • Qualifications and experience related to the role

 Nice to have

  • An extensive industry network
  • The ability to manage large projects
  • Health and Safety expertise
  • Experience in a significant boiler company

 

Support

You will be supported by a capable back office which includes an Accounts Manager (responsible for cashflow, billing, creditors and systems), a Contracts Manager (responsible for compiling quotes) and a Business Development Manager (responsible for generating new business).  The Managing Director manages HR and leads the Health and Safety journey.

Tubman Heating is also a member of a number of industry associations.
