Navigating NZ’s Energy Future – Insights from CEP 2026

Kia ora, and welcome to our latest industry update,
The Tubman Heating team recently attended the CEP Conference 2026 in Hamilton, New Zealand’s leading event for energy, carbon, and sustainability professionals.
We’d like to thank everyone who visited our stand and connected with the team. It was a great opportunity to share insights, discuss challenges, and explore practical solutions for the future of industrial heating in New Zealand.

Key insight: Energy uncertainty remains
One of the dominant themes across the conference was the decline in New Zealand’s natural gas reserves and the challenge this presents for industrial energy users.
While representatives from across the political spectrum outlined different approaches to addressing New Zealand’s energy challenges, there was broad agreement on the need to support industry through the transition. This commitment was reinforced by the Government’s recent announcement of a $1.2 billion loan guarantee scheme, aimed at helping businesses invest in energy security and decarbonisation initiatives.
The direction of travel is clear. Businesses will need to continue evaluating and investing in resilient, future-ready energy solutions.
Industry discussion: Transitioning to lower-emissions energy
Tubman was pleased to take part in the Nature’s Flame breakfast panel, alongside our partner John Thompson.
The discussion focused on practical pathways forward, including:
• Biomass energy
• Electrification
• Innovative funding models
Key topics ranged from biomass fuel supply and long-term sustainability through to the emissions reductions achievable when transitioning away from fossil fuels.
Working alongside EECA for sustainable outcomes
In addition to CEP, Tubman has also been actively engaging with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) through recent industry events and initiatives.
EECA plays a key role in supporting New Zealand businesses to:
• Improve energy efficiency
• Reduce emissions
• Transition to low-carbon technologies through funding and advisory programmes
Through these engagements, we’re continuing to align our solutions with EECA-supported pathways, helping customers access practical, cost-effective routes to decarbonisation.
Whether it’s biomass conversions, electrification, or optimising existing systems, Tubman can work alongside both customers and EECA to help:
• Identify eligible projects
• Navigate funding opportunities
• Deliver solutions that meet both operational and sustainability goals
How can Tubman Heating support you?
As the energy landscape continues to evolve, we remain focused on delivering flexible, site-specific solutions, including:
• Steam Biomass boiler systems and hot water biomass boiler systems
