ENERGY UPDATES

Biomass is Now a Proven, Secure Solution in New Zealand

The shift away from fossil fuels has matured. Biomass is no longer an emerging technology; it is a proven, commercially viable solution for industrial heating in New Zealand. This success is directly driving a more resilient and sustainable economy.

Why the Industry is Converting Now:
Successful large-scale projects at major operators like Fonterra and Golden Bay Cement have achieved CO2 equivalent emissions reductions of up to 98% compared to coal. This success demonstrates that converting to biomass delivers high boiler efficiency (often exceeding old fossil fuel systems) and reduced long-term maintenance costs.

Unlike oil and gas, biomass (primarily wood chips and pellets) is sourced from New Zealand’s local, well-developed forestry sector. This reliance on a stable, domestic fuel supply enhances energy security for your operations and supports regional economic growth.

The successful adoption of biomass requires precise engineering to handle diverse fuel types and match them to exact steam or hot water requirements. This confirms the critical role of specialist partners, like Tubman Heating, to design, commission, and service flexible, high-efficiency systems.

Product Recommendation

Grat Commercial Heating Heat Pump

Commercial Air-to-Water Heat Pumps are the robust, high-efficiency solution for decarbonising commercial heating, serving as a like-for-like replacement for fossil fuel systems. Leveraging New Zealand’s renewable electricity, these units provide exceptional efficiency (up to 450%) and can deliver high-temperature water up to 85°C for process and space heating, ensuring long-term cost stability.

Heating-as-a-Service (HaaS) is a solution that allows businesses to transition to renewable heating systems without the large upfront capital expenditure. This comprehensive offering covers finance, design, installation, service, and warranty. It enables the cost of the system to be spread over a 5-10 year period. HaaS includes fully managed planned maintenance with 24/7 availability and optional fuel supply with locked-in pricing.

The Lease-to-Own (LTO) solution is a financial package that helps businesses transition to renewable heating systems without large, upfront capital costs. The LTO covers the core asset acquisition, including the system’s design, financing, and seamless installation. This structure spreads the total cost of the new system over an agreed payment period, typically seven years. Planned maintenance and fuel supply agreements are managed separately from the LTO.
