In this case study, we delve into the successful procurement, prefabrication, installation, and commissioning of a Simons Electric Boiler for a client in the industrial heating sector. The project involved multiple stages, including tank fabrication, prefabrication of equipment, and comprehensive installation of various components. To kickstart the project, the decision was made to procure a Simons Electric Boiler, renowned for its reliability and efficiency. Additionally, the project required the fabrication of a Feedwater Tank and Blowdown Tank. To ensure high-quality fabrication, a trusted tank supplier was engaged. Efficient prefabrication played a crucial role in streamlining the installation process. A key prefabrication task involved fabricating the feedwater tank stand at our Auckland workshop prior to any on-site work. This approach minimised disruptions during the installation phase. In addition, the feedwater tank was designed and constructed with feet, to securely mount on the stand ensuring stability and optimal functionality.
Once all the necessary components were ready, the installation phase commenced. The process began with the transportation of the Simons Electric Boiler and associated equipment to the site. Upon arrival, the boiler and equipment were mounted in place, securely fastened with bolts into the concrete floor. The feedwater tank was also mounted on the previously fabricated stand, ensuring proper positioning for optimal system operation.
To establish the necessary connections, piping and valves were installed from the feedwater tank to the boiler. Steam piping was run from the boiler’s outlet to the steam sparge on the feedwater tank, as well as to a DN25 isolation valve, which would later be connected by the client. Piping from the boiler to the blowdown tank was also installed, ensuring a comprehensive and interconnected system.
Furthermore, the dosing pumps and chemicals were connected to the DN20 feedwater line, promoting efficient and controlled water treatment. A DN15 fill line was installed, passing through a water softener and connecting into the feedwater tank. Water supply connections to the softener were handled by the client. To ensure proper ventilation and safety, the steam/safety vents from the boiler and tanks were routed through a common DN50 steel pipe, extending up to the building’s roof.
With the water supply and electrical connections completed, the final phase of the project involved commissioning the newly installed boilers. One of our expert service technicians was enlisted to conduct a comprehensive assessment, ensuring that the system was fully operational and met all safety and regulatory standards. The commissioning process involved meticulous checks, adjustments, and fine-tuning to optimize the performance of the heating system.
